Meet The Board!
Mahi Shah
Co-President
Hey everyone! I’m Mahi and am one of the co-presidents of the Women and Gender Minorities in Policy Debate Collective. I have been debating for the last three years and am a current junior at the University of Chicago Laboratory School. Aside from debate, I really enjoy singing, playing the ukulele, going on walks, and spending time with friends and family. I decided to join WGM because I am truly passionate about making the debate community a place where everyone feels welcome, respected, and confident. As a freshman, I was lucky enough to have role models across the circuit that helped me find my voice, and I hope to give back in the same way by making younger debaters feel like they belong.
Elaine Suh
Head of Outreach
Hi! I'm Elaine and I'm the Head of Outreach. This is my third year of debate and I am currently a junior at East High School. Outside of debate, you can expect to see me practising the flute, running (long distance), or playing tennis. Debate is an activity I love, but also have felt so overwhelmed and intimidated by. I was more so drawn into WGM due to the immense community support and wonderful role models. I want to carry on our mission to shape a more welcoming space for the future and for debaters like you :)
Kira Tretiak
Co-President
Hi!! I’m Kira and I’m a co-president of the Women and Gender Minorities in Policy Debate Collective. I’m a senior at Mamaroneck High School and have been debating for four years. Outside of debate, I like to bike, read, go to the movies, and spend time with my friends. My favorite movie is Knives Out. I joined WGM because the debate community has given a lot to me and I wanted the chance to give back, particularly to younger girls and gender minorities. I’m passionate about making the debate community an inclusive and welcoming environment for all debaters.
Eunji Carpenter
Head of Publications
Hello ! My name is Eunji Carpenter and I am the Head of Publications of the Women and Gender Minorities in Policy Debate Collective. This is my third year of debate and I am currently a junior at Glenbrook North High School. When I'm not debating, I enjoy painting, reading, and going thrifting with my friends. I first joined WGM because I noticed the frustrating disparities that minorities often faced in the debate space, and wanted to use my own experiences to work together with others and create a more welcoming community. Especially in a time where COVID has impacted enrollment numbers, I hope to provide incoming debaters the solidarity necessary for them to succeed within the debate space.
